Skipper: Ian Smith
The original was built, owner and skippered by “Wee Georgie” Robinson, the famous Balmain footballer. It sailed for 25 years before becoming a Starters Boat and then a launch. Now restored it is a display item at the Australian National Maritime Museum.
The replica was measured and built from the restored original and from plans drawn by David Paine (a very accomplished boat designer) and Alan Paine (most respected naval architect). Ian has replicated the planking/timber selection and details of the original and is the only true “carvel planked” replica. Britannia carries a large 1919 sail plan and a crew of up to 14!
