Dropping the Spinnaker
The spinnaker is usually dropped about 100 to 200 metres from the rounding buoy. The first step is to get the fin down to provide stability during the drop. The sail is de-powered, the pole unhooked from the snotter and brought in section by section, then the For'ard Hand pulls down the sail while someone feeds out the halyard, and the sail is stuffed in the bag.
