Heat 5 Summer Point Score Series

Overnight a vigorous Southerly change passed through leaving a light South to East breeze so we set off on the Number 3 SE course with the biggest rigs available.

Patchy wind allowed Alruth and Australia IV, being guest helmed by D Zamanec in Woody`s abscence, both starting off scratch to make good gains on the first work to Clarke Island.

Scot with Ian Pretty on helm rounded Clarke first followed by Aberdare then who both "twosailed" to Taylors Bay . Setting masthead Kites allowed The Mistake and Alruth to make further ground however Australia IV carried a "peak head whomper". Fickle winds saw some varied tactics with Harold Cudmore and The Mistake Team grabbing the lead just before rounding Shark Island.

The long run back to Kurraba saw ringtails set by thirsty crews looking for a Pussers Rum Prize. The Mistake had a clear run through the other clubs fleet of winged eighteens all milling around their postponement flag resulting in the traffic slowing Scot and Australia IV with a massive wind shadow by sails and spectator vessels.

As the fleet set off to Clarke for the last time we returned to the SFS as the Ferry had an early charter.

Results 1st The Mistake, and fastest time; 2nd Aberdare ; 3rd Australia IV.
