The Flying
Dutchman was designed in 1959 by Conrad Gulcher and
was an Olympic class between 1960 and 1992. It is 20
foot long, and sailed by a crew of two, one of whom
is on trapeze. Hull form, weight and foil design is
restricted, and rigs can be developed within some restrictions.
The Flying Dutchman is particularly renowned for its
speed to windward.
Flying Dutchman are raced all around
Australia and in 44 other countries. World Championships
are held annually, as are Australian National and State
Titles.
We are always on the lookout for
new sailors wishing to join our sailing program, anyone
interested should get in contact with Sydney Flying
Squadron by completing our crew enquiry
form.
